R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. of Mount Olive
  Baptist Church in Arlington is serving as Pastor of the Day for the
  Texas House of Representatives on April 24, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Reverend Thompson
  joined the staff of Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a
  minister; he became the youth pastor two years later, and he
  continued to serve in that role until 1994, when the church's senior
  pastor and congregation elected him pastor; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Thompson is a graduate of the University of
  the District of Columbia and holds a master's degree in theological
  studies from the Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University;
  he also attended the Dallas Theological Seminary, and he has been
  recognized for his ministry with an honorary doctorate of
  humanities from the Southern Bible Institute, whose board he
  currently chairs; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Thompson enjoys the
  love and support of his wife, Lalita Thompson, and their four
  children, Kanita, Jessica, James, and Megan; and
         WHEREAS, The Reverend James Thompson has inspired countless
  people with his message of faith and goodwill, and it is a pleasure
  to welcome him to this chamber; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. for
  his service as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Reverend Thompson as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
