R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. of Mount Olive |
|
Baptist Church in Arlington is serving as Pastor of the Day for the |
|
Texas House of Representatives on April 24, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Reverend Thompson |
|
joined the staff of Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a |
|
minister; he became the youth pastor two years later, and he |
|
continued to serve in that role until 1994, when the church's senior |
|
pastor and congregation elected him pastor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Thompson is a graduate of the University of |
|
the District of Columbia and holds a master's degree in theological |
|
studies from the Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University; |
|
he also attended the Dallas Theological Seminary, and he has been |
|
recognized for his ministry with an honorary doctorate of |
|
humanities from the Southern Bible Institute, whose board he |
|
currently chairs; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Thompson enjoys the |
|
love and support of his wife, Lalita Thompson, and their four |
|
children, Kanita, Jessica, James, and Megan; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Reverend James Thompson has inspired countless |
|
people with his message of faith and goodwill, and it is a pleasure |
|
to welcome him to this chamber; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize the Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. for |
|
his service as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Reverend Thompson as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
