R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  death of Robert K. Murphy of Houston on November 29, 2016, at the
  age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Bob Murphy was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Richard
  and Loretta Murphy; after graduating from Loyola Academy, he
  answered his nation's call to duty and enlisted in the U.S. Marine
  Corps, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of
  master sergeant; and
         WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Murphy married Joan
  Bowers in 1954, and they shared many happy years together until her
  death; he was the proud father of five children, Mary Beth, Marilyn,
  Jim, Barbara, and Kathleen, and later in life, he was blessed with
  nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Patrick, Nicholas,
  Robert, Pace, Katie, Benjamin, and Emma, and a great-grandson,
  James; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of Houston since 1963, Mr. Murphy enjoyed
  a successful career with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance
  Company that spanned five decades, and he was active in his
  community and in local politics for most of his life as well; a man
  of deep religious faith, he was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic
  Church and a patron of the Holy Name Retreat Center; and
         WHEREAS, Proud of his Irish heritage, Mr. Murphy was an
  energetic, good-humored, and dynamic individual who knew his own
  mind; he loved music, he enjoyed playing golf and hunting, and he
  particularly delighted in the time he spent with his children and
  grandchildren at his home on Inks Lake; and
         WHEREAS, Bob Murphy embraced life to the fullest, and the
  memory of his optimism and gregarious laugh ensure that he will
  forever remain a vibrant presence in the lives of all those who knew
  and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert K. Murphy and
  extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert K.
  Murphy.
