R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, PublicSchoolOptions.org is dedicated to supporting |
|
parents as they seek the best public education options for their |
|
children; and |
|
WHEREAS, An alliance of parents, the organization has members |
|
in nearly 30 states who promote the creation of public school |
|
alternatives such as charter schools, online schools, magnet |
|
schools, open enrollment policies, and innovative programs; the |
|
group advocates at the state and national levels for schools that |
|
serve the unique learning needs of individual students, and it |
|
works to keep existing choices available and expand them to school |
|
districts in every state; and |
|
WHEREAS, The organization also informs policy makers and the |
|
public about the advantages of providing a range of school options, |
|
and it strives to dispel myths and correct misrepresentations about |
|
innovative public schools; among other activities, it sponsors |
|
school visits, live e-learning demonstrations, and family days at |
|
state capitols, and it issues newsletters, policy briefings, and |
|
press releases; and |
|
WHEREAS, In recent years, educators have increasingly |
|
recognized that traditional schools may not meet the needs of every |
|
child, and the demand for alternatives has grown; more than 2 |
|
million students are enrolled in over 5,600 charter schools across |
|
the country, and recent figures indicated that there were 250,000 |
|
full-time online students; and |
|
WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise, |
|
and through its efforts, PublicSchoolOptions.org is helping to |
|
ensure that each child gains access to his or her optimal learning |
|
environment; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize PublicSchoolOptions.org for its |
|
contributions and extend to its members sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
