R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The West Orange-Stark High School football team once
  again proved itself one of the finest in Texas by capturing the
  University Interscholastic League 4A Division 2 state championship
  on December 16, 2016, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and
         WHEREAS, En route to their second consecutive state title and
  a perfect 16-0 record, the Mustangs dominated their opponents
  throughout regular season play, recording seven shutouts and giving
  up a total of just 30 points; and
         WHEREAS, This exceptional team marched through the playoffs
  with decisive victories over Cleveland Tarkington, Waco Robinson,
  Bellville, Giddings, and Geronimo Navarro High Schools to secure a
  spot in the finale against Sweetwater; and
         WHEREAS, Trailing by six points early in the championship
  game, the Mustangs rallied to score a touchdown late in the second
  quarter, giving them a 7-6 lead going into halftime; the team's
  stout defense kept Sweetwater in check in the second half while the
  offense tallied two more touchdowns and a field goal to cap off a
  commanding 24-6 win; and
         WHEREAS, Under the inspiring leadership of head coach Cornel
  Thompson, the Mustangs received valuable contributions throughout
  the season from all of the student-athletes on the roster, making
  their achievements a true team effort; and
         WHEREAS, With their remarkable performance in 2016, the West
  Orange-Stark football team has furthered the school's tradition of
  gridiron excellence, and the players will treasure the memory of
  this accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the West Orange-Stark High School
  football team on winning the 2016 UIL 4A Division 2 state
  championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
