R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Entrepreneur and hip-hop pioneer James Prince has
  been named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black
  Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, Known as "J. Prince," this esteemed Texan founded
  Rap-A-Lot, a prolific Houston-based record label, partly as a way
  of keeping teenagers in the Fifth Ward in school and off the
  streets; since its inception in 1986, the label has produced more
  than two dozen gold and platinum albums by such artists as the Geto
  Boys, Scarface, Do or Die, and Big Mike; Mr. Prince continues to
  serve as the label's chief executive officer; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to building a hip-hop empire, Mr. Prince
  has pursued a number of other business ventures, establishing the
  real estate companies Lease-A-Lot and On Time and the Prince Estate
  ranch; he also manages a wide range of professional boxers through
  Prince Boxing Enterprise; and
         WHEREAS, James Prince's name has become a byword for
  generosity in the Bayou City; for many years, he has given away toys
  at Christmas, turkeys at Thanksgiving, and school supplies and
  uniforms at the beginning of the academic year; he has also donated
  generators during storms and air conditioners to senior citizens
  during the summer months, and in the aftermath of Hurricane
  Katrina, he provided housing for hundreds of evacuees; moreover, he
  has created the Betty "MoMo" Washington Chatman Scholarship Fund
  and the Prince Complex, a nonprofit that provides athletic,
  recreational, and academic programs for local youth; and
         WHEREAS, Among the accolades conferred on this esteemed
  entrepreneur and philanthropist have been a Source Hip Hop Image
  Award and the proclamation of James Prince Day by the Houston City
  Council; in 2016, he was a keynote speaker at the South by Southwest
  festival; and
         WHEREAS, The Lone Star State benefits each day from the
  contributions of civic leaders who improve the quality of life in
  their communities, and the Houston area is indeed fortunate to have
  passionate and engaged residents like James Prince; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate James Prince on his receipt of an
  Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Prince as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
