R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier of the Corpus Christi Clergy Alliance |
|
and Jesse Elizondo of the Homeless Issues Partnership are working |
|
together to end chronic homelessness in Corpus Christi, and their |
|
efforts are truly worthy of recognition; and |
|
WHEREAS, According to the Homeless Issues Partnership, |
|
hundreds of people currently experience chronic homelessness in |
|
Corpus Christi; while many individuals can be helped through |
|
transitional housing initiatives, others, for a variety of reasons, |
|
are not well served by such programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Elizondo advocate for an |
|
approach that benefits all those in need of help; they support the |
|
housing-first model, which seeks to rehouse homeless individuals as |
|
quickly as possible as a means of restoring their dignity and which |
|
only subsequently addresses behavioral issues and social |
|
reintegration; the two civic leaders are focused on ending |
|
homelessness in Corpus Christi by 2019; and |
|
WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo are committed to |
|
addressing a crisis that blights the lives of some of Corpus |
|
Christi's most vulnerable residents, and through their leadership |
|
in this effort, they are providing real hope to those who are |
|
directly affected and making an immeasurable contribution to the |
|
community at large; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo for their |
|
efforts to end chronic homelessness in Corpus Christi and extend to |
|
them sincere best wishes for success with their important work; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
|
for Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Elizondo as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
