R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Bell County lost one of its most esteemed community
  leaders with the passing of Leroy Adolph Schiller on January 24,
  2017, at the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, Leroy Schiller was born in Rosebud on April 8, 1946,
  to Ernest and Leona Schiller; a member of the Rogers High School
  Class of 1964, he earned an associate degree from Central Texas
  College, a bachelor's degree from the University of Mary
  Hardin-Baylor, and a master's degree in criminology from the
  University of Central Texas; and
         WHEREAS, After completing the Texas Department of Public
  Safety Trooper Trainee Academy in 1967, Mr. Schiller served as a
  state trooper for nearly three decades, before retiring in 1995;
  the following year, he won election as Bell County commissioner for
  Precinct 3; he held that office for two terms and subsequently
  served as the county tax appraisal liaison officer for eight years;
  he farmed throughout his life, first alongside his parents and his
  brother, Weldon, and later with his own family; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Schiller gave generously of his time and
  energies to a host of professional and civic organizations; in
  recognition of his many accomplishments, he received Trooper of the
  Year Awards from the Temple Jaycees and the Temple Knights of
  Columbus, a Distinguished Alumni Award from UMHB, and numerous
  other honors; he was also widely admired for his talents as a
  trumpeter and pianist, and he entertained area residents for almost
  half a century as leader of the East Bell County Bohemian Brass Band
  and Barbecue Society and the Clem Mikeska Barbecue Band; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Schiller shared nearly four decades of marriage
  with his wife, Karyl, and the couple were blessed with five
  children, Kevin Schiller and his wife, Lindsey, Kent Schiller and
  his wife, Monica, Carrie Walsh and her husband, Tim, Kelly Arnold
  and her husband, Dennis, and Amy Schiller, as well as 10
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Leroy Schiller lived a life that was rich in
  personal and professional achievements, and he leaves behind a
  legacy of service that will continue to inspire all those who knew
  and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That tribute be paid to the memory of Leroy Adolph
  Schiller and that sincere condolences be extended to the members of
  his family and to his many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leroy
  Schiller.
