H.R. No. 699

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Johnny Spillman is retiring from the McLennan County Sheriff's Office on April 30, 2017, drawing to a close a notable career as a peace officer that has spanned three decades; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Spillman is a graduate of the McLennan Community College Law Enforcement Academy; he began his career with the McLennan County jail in 1986, and for the past five years he has served as an administrator in the criminal investigation division, where he oversees 10 investigators, 5 mental health deputies, and a number of civilian employees; over the past several years he has helped lead the division to an arrest in every homicide case in the county's jurisdiction; and

WHEREAS, This courageous officer has been honored with the Star of Texas Award, which was presented to him by Governor Rick Perry in recognition of a serious injury he sustained in 2013 while engaged in the investigation of a reported kidnapping; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Spillman has exemplified the highest ideals of his profession throughout his career, and his unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens has earned him the lasting respect and admiration of all who know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Lieutenant Johnny Spillman on the occasion of his retirement from the McLennan County Sheriff's Office and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Lieutenant Spillman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
