R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |
|
of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13, |
|
2017, at the age of 73; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend |
|
Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the |
|
small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five |
|
siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he |
|
attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve |
|
his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and |
|
WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes |
|
enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took |
|
a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he |
|
spent two decades traveling across the country as a union |
|
representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active |
|
member of the NAACP; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry, |
|
Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13 |
|
grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac, |
|
Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as |
|
well as 8 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will |
|
remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength |
|
of character, and he will forever be remembered with great |
|
admiration; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and |
|
extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Copes. |
