R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, March 10, 2017, marks the 50th wedding anniversary
  of Alan and Kathleen Dale of Leander, and this joyous event provides
  a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey
  together as husband and wife; and
         WHEREAS, Alan John Dale and the former Kathleen Margaret
  Hurley met in Northampton, Massachusetts, in 1965 at a Friendly's
  Ice Cream restaurant where he was a manager and she was a waitress;
  he took her to a cowboy movie at the drive-in for their first date,
  and although she was no fan of Westerns, their courtship blossomed,
  even as he enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to
  sea duty; while he served on the aircraft carrier USS John F.
  Kennedy, she worked in the treasurer's office of the University of
  Massachusetts; and
         WHEREAS, On March 10, 1967, the couple married at St. Mary of
  the Assumption Catholic Church in Northampton; they became the
  proud parents of a daughter, Cheri, and a son, Tony; after attaining
  the rank of petty officer third class, Mr. Dale completed his
  military service and embarked on a career in restaurant management
  that would span three decades; Mrs. Dale was employed in
  accounting, banking, and the newspaper business; and
         WHEREAS, Their professions took the Dales to Michigan, Ohio,
  California, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Tennessee;
  eventually, they settled in Leander to be close to their
  grandchildren, Aidan Davies and Maggie and Izzy Dale; their
  treasured family also includes a son-in-law, Christopher Davies,
  and daughter-in-law, Mary Lopez Dale; and
         WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, the Dales are
  active volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Austin;
  Mr. Dale is employed as a retail manager at CVS Pharmacy, while
  Mrs. Dale enjoys spending time with her grandson and
  granddaughters; and
         WHEREAS, The 50 years of marriage that this esteemed couple
  have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and
  commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who
  know them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Alan and Kathleen Dale on their
  50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Dale as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
