R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross of Southeast and Deep East |
|
|
Texas is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017, and this |
|
|
significant milestone truly merits special recognition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established by Clara Barton in 1881, the American |
|
|
Red Cross has been committed throughout its history to providing |
|
|
both disaster relief and humanitarian aid to military personnel; in |
|
|
1917, with the United States' entry into World War I, patriotic and |
|
|
compassionate citizens in Southeast and Deep East Texas gathered |
|
|
together to form local chapters of the organization, ensuring the |
|
|
area stood ready to support the troops during the Great War; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, the ARC of Southeast and Deep East Texas |
|
|
serves the people of Angelina, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, |
|
|
Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, and |
|
|
Tyler Counties; its volunteers and personnel remain committed to |
|
|
the Red Cross mission of alleviating human suffering, and in recent |
|
|
years, they have played instrumental roles in assisting the victims |
|
|
of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike; since 2014, the chapter has |
|
|
been led by executive director Chester R. Jourdan Jr.; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 100 years, the men and women of the Red Cross of |
|
|
Southeast and Deep East Texas have come to the aid of their |
|
|
neighbors during times of crisis and adversity, and their |
|
|
exceptional skill and dedication have saved lives, provided comfort |
|
|
to those in need, and strengthened their communities; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the American Red |
|
|
Cross of Southeast and Deep East Texas and extend to all those |
|
|
associated with this outstanding organization sincere best wishes |
|
|
for continued success in their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
