R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of First Presbyterian Church in Lott are |
|
|
celebrating the 125th anniversary of their church's founding on |
|
|
March 27, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, First Presbyterian Church in Lott was established in |
|
|
1892, and it has since played a vital role in the community, |
|
|
providing its members with myriad opportunities for spiritual |
|
|
growth, fellowship, and outreach; the church's current sanctuary |
|
|
was constructed in 1942, and the outside bell was a feature of the |
|
|
original 1892 building, which occupied the same site; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the congregation has benefited from |
|
|
the able leadership of a number of dedicated clergymen, including |
|
|
its founding pastors, the Reverends C. W. Payton, J. W. Siler, and |
|
|
J. T. Thompson; today that tradition of service is continued by the |
|
|
Reverend William Benner; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, First Presbyterian Church has long served as a |
|
|
source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and |
|
|
its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment |
|
|
of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of First |
|
|
Presbyterian Church in Lott and extend to its members sincere best |
|
|
wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
