R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of South Texas is celebrating |
|
|
the 30th anniversary of its annual 10K and 5K run/walk fund-raiser |
|
|
in 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A not-for-profit agency incorporated in 1948, |
|
|
Goodwill Industries of South Texas serves a territory spanning 20 |
|
|
counties; the organization's primary mission is to provide jobs and |
|
|
job-training programs for persons with disabilities and other |
|
|
barriers to employment, and its recent efforts have been focused on |
|
|
assisting veterans, including homeless veterans, in making the |
|
|
successful transition to civilian life; in 2015 alone, Goodwill's |
|
|
programs benefited more than 5,100 people in the Coastal Bend area; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Goodwill 10K and 5K road race in Corpus Christi, |
|
|
held for its 30th year on March 4, 2017, is the organization's |
|
|
largest fund-raiser in the region; proceeds from the event, which |
|
|
last year totaled $43,000, support programs offering job training, |
|
|
employment placement, financial literacy, clothing vouchers, and |
|
|
résumé workshops for area residents in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of its history, Goodwill has made a |
|
|
lasting, positive difference in the lives of countless South |
|
|
Texans, and its annual 10K and 5K fund-raiser has played a |
|
|
significant role in enabling the organization to pursue its |
|
|
charitable goals; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Goodwill Industries of South Texas on the |
|
|
30th anniversary of its 10K and 5K run/walk fund-raiser and extend |
|
|
to the agency's members sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
|
with their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Goodwill Industries of South Texas as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
