R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her military service during World |
|
War II, Alice Porter is being presented with a Women in History |
|
award by the Corpus Christi Chapter of the National Society |
|
Daughters of the American Revolution on March 24, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of New Jersey, Alice Porter joined the navy |
|
as part of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service |
|
program in 1945; she was assigned to Naval Air Station Atlanta, |
|
where she was trained as an instructor for a flight simulation |
|
device called a link trainer; she was later transferred to the base |
|
in Corpus Christi to teach pilots how to fly by instruments at night |
|
and in unfamiliar territory; and |
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a debt of gratitude to those men and |
|
women who commit themselves to defending the nation's liberty and |
|
security, and Alice Porter may indeed take great pride in her |
|
outstanding service to her nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Alice Porter on her receipt of a |
|
Women in History award from the Corpus Christi Chapter of the |
|
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and extend to |
|
her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Porter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
