R E S O L U T I O N
|
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her military service during World |
|
|
War II, Maxine Flournoy is being presented with a Women in History |
|
|
award by the Corpus Christi Chapter of the National Society |
|
|
Daughters of the American Revolution on March 24, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Wheaton, Missouri, Maxine Flournoy |
|
|
received her pilot's license in 1939, and at age 21, she joined the |
|
|
Women's Air Force Service Pilots; after graduating from training in |
|
|
1943, she was assigned to Sweetwater and later stationed at the |
|
|
Hondo Army Airfield, where she flew planes in from factories and |
|
|
helped train navigators; in 2010, she was awarded the Congressional |
|
|
Gold Medal for her distinguished service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Flournoy has further benefited |
|
|
her fellow citizens as a board member for the United Service |
|
|
Organizations and as a Texas Historical Commissioner; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a debt of gratitude to those men and |
|
|
women who commit themselves to defending the nation's liberty and |
|
|
security, and Maxine Flournoy may indeed take great pride in her |
|
|
outstanding service to her nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Maxine Flournoy on her receipt of a |
|
|
Women in History award from the Corpus Christi Chapter of the |
|
|
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and extend to |
|
|
her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Flournoy as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
