R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Pollyanna and Steve Stephens of San Angelo are being
  honored with the Distinguished Citizen Award by the Texas Southwest
  Council of the Boy Scouts of America on April 13, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Longtime civic and business leaders, the couple are
  retired from Town & Country Food Stores, Inc., where Mr. Stephens
  served as cofounder, chair, and CEO, and Mrs. Stephens supported
  the company's operations as co-owner, board secretary, and director
  of public relations and special events; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
  F. L. "Steve" Stephens is a former director of First Financial
  Bankshares, San Angelo National Bank, and West Texas Utilities
  Company; over the years, this esteemed Texan has given back to the
  business community through his work as chair of the Texas, West
  Texas, and San Angelo Chambers of Commerce, as well as in leadership
  roles for the local, state, and national Jaycees organizations;
  moreover, he is a past chair of the San Angelo Health Foundation,
  the Tom Green County United Way Campaign, and other local
  institutions, and he has held gubernatorial appointments to the
  Texas Board of Criminal Justice and the Texas Strategic Economic
  Development Planning Commission; and
         WHEREAS, Another proud Longhorn, Pollyanna Stephens is also
  an exceptionally engaged citizen, having served on the boards of
  the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, the San Angelo Communities
  Foundation, and the San Angelo Business and Education Coalition;
  among the many other organizations that have benefited from her
  involvement are Volunteers in Public Schools, the YMCA, the Rio
  Concho Manor Retirement Center, and the West Texas Lighthouse for
  the Blind, and she has additionally volunteered her time with the
  Junior League of San Angelo, which she served as president and as a
  National Committee member; moreover, she and her husband have
  co-chaired the Beacon to the Future Committee for a new library in
  Tom Green County; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic couple have been recognized as Citizens
  of the Year by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and in honor of
  their many good works, a number of facilities in San Angelo now bear
  their name, including the Stephens Natatorium at the YMCA, the
  Stephens County Library, the Stephens Arena at Angelo State
  University, and the Stephens Performing Arts Center; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Stephens have been married nearly six
  decades, and they are blessed with two daughters, Susan and Liz, and
  four grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor,
  Pollyanna and Steve Stephens have contributed immeasurably to the
  San Angelo community, and in so doing, they have earned the deep and
  lasting respect of their fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Pollyanna and Steve Stephens on
  their receipt of the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Texas
  Southwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America and extend to them
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Stephens as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
