R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Kurt L. Verlei retired from KCRS AM radio in Odessa
  in January 2017, drawing to a close his 14-year tenure as cohost of
  the station's Morning Drive program; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Verlei joined Morning Drive two years after it
  started, at the request of his longtime friend Robert Hallmark, who
  was the show's other host and the KCRS program director; the men's
  close partnership helped the show become one of the top five
  programs in the Midland-Odessa market, averaging 30,000 listeners a
  week with its combination of national and local news, call-in
  comments, and interviews with celebrities and political figures;
  and
         WHEREAS, Although the two cohosts are retiring from KCRS
  together and turning the show over to a new team, Mr. Verlei will
  continue to work full-time as a marketing lecturer at The
  University of Texas of the Permian Basin; this esteemed Texan holds
  a bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a master's degree in
  business administration from UTPB; in recognition of his
  outstanding civic engagement, he received a 2014 Community
  Statesman Award from the Heritage of Odessa Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Verlei enjoys the love and
  support of his wife, Janace Verlei, as well as that of his children
  and their spouses, Hillary Brunner and her husband, Kevin,
  Stephanie Maddox and her husband, Kevin, Casey Randolph and his
  wife, Ashley, and Coree Lawson and her husband, Grant; he also
  delights in the time he spends with his grandchildren, Sheridan,
  Keegan, Hailey, Kaitlyn, Abigail, Lily, Olivia, Kai, Ezra, Anthony,
  and Orion; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Verlei's professionalism, dedication to his
  work, and commitment to his community have greatly benefited his
  listeners in Odessa and earned him the respect and admiration of his
  fellow broadcasters, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his
  years on the air as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter in his
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Kurt L. Verlei on his retirement
  from KCRS radio and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Verlei as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
