R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Charles Ray Sims is being presented with a Lifetime
  Achievement Award by the City of Cedar Hill on March 28, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sims enjoyed a notable career as a firefighter
  that spanned more than four and a half decades; in 1949, he joined
  the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he eventually
  became the city's first paid fire chief; he retired from that post
  in February 1995, and five years later, the city honored his
  exemplary service by renaming the Central Fire Station in his
  honor; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Cedar Hill High School Class of 1943,
  Mr. Sims answered his nation's call to duty during World War II as a
  member of the U.S. Army, serving primarily in the Pacific theater;
  following his discharge, he was employed at the Reserve Life
  Insurance Company in Dallas for 15 years and subsequently began
  working at Sims Grocery, which he and his wife, Verna Jean, later
  acquired; the couple operated the store until 1984; and
         WHEREAS, Through his long-standing commitment to protecting
  the lives and property of his fellow citizens, Charles Ray Sims has
  earned the lasting gratitude of the Cedar Hill community, and it is
  indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing him on this special
  occasion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Charles Ray Sims on his receipt of
  a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Cedar Hill and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sims as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
