R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Charles Ray Sims is being presented with a Lifetime |
|
|
Achievement Award by the City of Cedar Hill on March 28, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Sims enjoyed a notable career as a firefighter |
|
|
that spanned more than four and a half decades; in 1949, he joined |
|
|
the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he eventually |
|
|
became the city's first paid fire chief; he retired from that post |
|
|
in February 1995, and five years later, the city honored his |
|
|
exemplary service by renaming the Central Fire Station in his |
|
|
honor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A member of the Cedar Hill High School Class of 1943, |
|
|
Mr. Sims answered his nation's call to duty during World War II as a |
|
|
member of the U.S. Army, serving primarily in the Pacific theater; |
|
|
following his discharge, he was employed at the Reserve Life |
|
|
Insurance Company in Dallas for 15 years and subsequently began |
|
|
working at Sims Grocery, which he and his wife, Verna Jean, later |
|
|
acquired; the couple operated the store until 1984; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his long-standing commitment to protecting |
|
|
the lives and property of his fellow citizens, Charles Ray Sims has |
|
|
earned the lasting gratitude of the Cedar Hill community, and it is |
|
|
indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing him on this special |
|
|
occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Charles Ray Sims on his receipt of |
|
|
a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Cedar Hill and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Sims as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
