R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Elvin Bates has been named the 2017 |
|
|
Prevention Officer of the Year by the Corpus Christi Fire |
|
|
Department; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Bates began his career with the Corpus |
|
|
Christi Fire Department in 1968, and over the years, he has rendered |
|
|
outstanding service to his community, which now boasts a population |
|
|
of more than 320,000 and encompasses an area extending across 170 |
|
|
square miles; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During his 45-year tenure with the department, |
|
|
Captain Bates has been instrumental in the development of the |
|
|
Corpus Christi Hazardous Materials Unit, of which he was a founding |
|
|
member; in 2009, he joined the Fire Prevention Bureau, whose |
|
|
mission includes educating the public about fire safety measures, |
|
|
and he has spent countless hours making sure homes in the community |
|
|
are properly outfitted with working smoke detectors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Elvin Bates has proven himself to be an |
|
|
exemplary member of his profession, and he may indeed reflect with |
|
|
pride on the vital part he plays in ensuring the safety and welfare |
|
|
of the citizens of Corpus Christi; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Captain Elvin Bates on his |
|
|
selection as the Corpus Christi Fire Department's 2017 Prevention |
|
|
Officer of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Captain Bates as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
