R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University at Galveston broke ground for |
|
|
the second phase of its academic complex project on February 16, |
|
|
2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This special-purpose Texas A&M campus features a |
|
|
curriculum centered on marine studies and maritime technology; over |
|
|
the past 16 years, its enrollment has grown more than tenfold, and |
|
|
the school's new academic complex will position the campus for |
|
|
continued growth; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The fourth major building to be started on the |
|
|
grounds in three years, this 38,000-square-foot facility features |
|
|
colors, materials, and design details that will enhance the |
|
|
university's "front door" and make a dramatic first impression on |
|
|
visitors; a pedestrian mall between this new building and one |
|
|
erected during the first phase of construction will draw the eye to |
|
|
Bracewell Clock Tower while serving as a passage between the |
|
|
entrance to campus and the quadrangle at its heart; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Once completed, the state-of-the-art building will |
|
|
include a large lecture hall that can be subdivided into smaller |
|
|
lecture spaces, along with seminar rooms, mail and copy services, |
|
|
the campus bookstore, and the offices of the school's |
|
|
administration and auxiliary services; the copious use of glass in |
|
|
the design will provide ample natural light to the interior while |
|
|
adding to the building's visual appeal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With its specialized educational program and |
|
|
growing student body, Texas A&M University at Galveston is a campus |
|
|
on the move, and this striking new facility will contribute greatly |
|
|
to the future success of the university; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the groundbreaking of the second |
|
|
phase of the academic complex project at Texas A&M University at |
|
|
Galveston and extend to the school's administration, faculty, |
|
|
staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
