R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Gilbert Robinson retired from the
  Galveston Fire Department on February 24, 2017, drawing to a close a
  notable career that spanned 36 years; and
         WHEREAS, After joining the department in 1981, Chief Robinson
  was promoted to assistant fire marshal in 2000 and fire marshal in
  2001; that same year, he became chief of the Fire Prevention and
  Arson Division, a position he held until his retirement; and
         WHEREAS, During his service with the GFD, Chief Robinson
  earned credentials as a peace officer, instructor, and arson
  investigator and received training in a wide range of areas,
  including juvenile firesetter prevention, critical incident stress
  management, aircraft rescue, bomb identification, gang activity,
  and department leadership; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Robinson has served his professional
  community as a fire commissioner for the State of Texas and as
  president of the Galveston Firefighters Local 571, and he played a
  key role in the Texas Commission of Fire Protection King Fest
  Celebration; in 2005, he organized the Greater Houston Fire
  Marshal's Council, which he led as chair of the board; he is
  currently a member of the Coastal Community Federal Credit Union
  Board of Directors and of Amity Lodge No. 4; in all his endeavors,
  he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Gia, and his daughter,
  Giana; and
         WHEREAS, Gilbert Robinson's commitment to the highest ideals
  of his profession has helped the Galveston Fire Department deliver
  exceptional services to local residents, and he may indeed reflect
  with pride on his contributions to his community and the State of
  Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Assistant Chief Gilbert Robinson
  on his retirement from the Galveston Fire Department and extend to
  him sincere best wishes as he embarks on the next exciting chapter
  of his life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chief Robinson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
