R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Maria Alexandra Adams, a senior at Keller High |
|
School, has greatly distinguished herself through her gifts as an |
|
artist; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although she was born without hands, Ms. Adams |
|
learned to draw and paint using only her elbows, and her artistic |
|
talent became clear when she was in elementary school; her painting |
|
of a house was selected by the Hudson Foundation for display in |
|
their offices for all to enjoy for a year; more recently, she |
|
received the highest grade at the Texas Art Education Association |
|
Visual Arts Scholastic Event for her picture of a chessboard with |
|
two sides, one with traditional chess pieces and the other with |
|
objects representing her childhood; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Adams was born near Penza in Russia and spent |
|
her first seven years in an orphanage for children with |
|
disabilities; with the assistance of Alexandra Goode of |
|
International Guardian Angels Outreach, she was brought to the |
|
United States for better medical care; she was adopted by the Adams |
|
family and has since thrived as a Texan; and |
|
WHEREAS, A good student, Ms. Adams has impressed her teachers |
|
with her kindness, consideration, and sense of humor, as well as her |
|
academic achievement; she is involved in the Astronomy Club and the |
|
National Art Honor Society, and she plans to study art, math, and |
|
science in college; in addition, she is active in her church youth |
|
group and participates in biannual mission trips to Mexico; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maria Adams has inspired innumerable people through |
|
her artistic vision and determination to overcome challenges and |
|
pursue her dreams, and she may indeed look forward to a future |
|
bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Maria Alexandra Adams for her |
|
accomplishments and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Adams as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
