R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Marilyn Spencer has been named a 2015-2016 |
|
|
Regents Professor by The Texas A&M University System Board of |
|
|
Regents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1996, the A&M Regents Professor |
|
|
Awards recognize faculty members who have made exemplary |
|
|
contributions not only to their university or agency, but also to |
|
|
the wider community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Spencer joined the administration of Texas A&M |
|
|
University-Corpus Christi in 1993 and led the University Core |
|
|
Curriculum Program until 2000, helping to develop the school's |
|
|
first core curriculum initiative; from 1995 to 2003, she served as |
|
|
founding director of the Center for Teaching Excellence, and in |
|
|
2003, she became an economics professor in the university's College |
|
|
of Business; today, she continues to teach while chairing the |
|
|
decision sciences and economics department; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Spencer has further shared her |
|
|
time and expertise as speaker of the Faculty Senate; she has also |
|
|
served the greater community as a longtime member of the Rotary Club |
|
|
and as a board member for a number of worthy organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her 23-year tenure with Texas A&M |
|
|
University-Corpus Christi, Dr. Marilyn Spencer has made a positive |
|
|
difference in the lives of countless students, and she has garnered |
|
|
the lasting respect and admiration of her peers and colleagues; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Marilyn Spencer on her |
|
|
selection as a 2015-2016 Regents Professor by The Texas A&M |
|
|
University System Board of Regents and extend to her sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Spencer as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
