R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Galveston police officer |
|
Christopher Michael Sanderson on March 4, 2017, at the age of 31, |
|
has brought a great loss to the family, friends, and colleagues of |
|
this dedicated public servant; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Galveston on September 11, 1985, Christopher |
|
Sanderson was the son of Robert and Barbara Sanderson; he graduated |
|
in 2004 from Ball High School and went on to work for the Galveston |
|
Beach Patrol, the City of Galveston Jail, and the Galveston Police |
|
Department, where he had spent the past decade of his career; and |
|
WHEREAS, Officer Sanderson was the recipient of numerous |
|
honors from the department, including a Life Saving Award and a |
|
Marine Dive Team Unit Commendation, and he was named Officer of the |
|
Year in both 2008 and 2016; he was a member of the Marine Dive |
|
Division, Special Response Group, and Honor Guard, but of all his |
|
achievements, he was proudest of the seven years that he served in |
|
the department's K-9 Division; he shared a close bond with his K-9 |
|
partner, Abba, and even during the last days of his life, he |
|
remained a strong advocate for the division; and |
|
WHEREAS, This extraordinary young man was blessed with the |
|
affection and support of his parents and his brother, Robert, as |
|
well as a wide circle of relatives; he was also cherished by many |
|
friends, who he was known to treat as family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Christopher Sanderson accomplished much during his |
|
time on this earth, and the example of his life will forever inspire |
|
those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Officer Christopher |
|
Michael Sanderson and extend heartfelt condolences to all those who |
|
mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|
Christopher Michael Sanderson. |
