R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The untimely death of Coby Lee Roy Slaughter of Wink |
|
on September 7, 2016, at the age of 36, is a tragic loss to his |
|
family, his fellow firefighters, and the community he served; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on August 20, 1980, in Kermit, Coby Slaughter |
|
was the son of Russ Slaughter and Julie Davis Flores and the older |
|
brother of four siblings, Casie, Cayla, Tate, and TyAnn; he |
|
graduated in 1999 from Wink High School, where he earned All-State |
|
honors as a lineman on the Wildcats football team; he subsequently |
|
enlisted in the United States Army, but a medical issue forced him |
|
to cut his military career short and return home with an honorable |
|
discharge; still committed to his dream of serving others, |
|
Mr. Slaughter joined the Wink Volunteer Fire Department, where he |
|
was a member for nearly 20 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, A hard worker at every task he took on, |
|
Mr. Slaughter made his living in the oilfields and demonstrated a |
|
special affinity for machines of all kinds; his greatest passion, |
|
however, was the cowboy way of life, and he found himself truly in |
|
his element while riding horses and roping cattle; for the last |
|
eight years, he operated the family-owned trucking and disposal |
|
business, S&W Enterprises, and he also helped out on family ranches |
|
in Wink and Pyote; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Slaughter married the love of his life, Kama, in |
|
2011, and he took great pride in his six children, Makaila, Ethan, |
|
Emilee, Remington, Landree, and Laramie; his warm smile and |
|
friendly demeanor endeared him readily to others, and despite his |
|
active schedule, he never hesitated to lend assistance to those in |
|
need; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although his time on this earth was far too brief, |
|
those who were privileged to know Coby Slaughter will forever find |
|
inspiration in the courage and kindness with which he lived his |
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Coby Lee Roy |
|
Slaughter and extend deepest condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Kama Slaughter; to his children, Makaila, |
|
Ethan, Emilee, Remington, Landree, and Laramie; to his parents, |
|
Russ and Debbie Slaughter and Julie Davis Flores; to his siblings, |
|
Casie, Cayla, Tate, and TyAnn; to his grandparents, Ronnie and |
|
Barbara Slaughter, Gerald Davis, Blu Thornton, and Linda Sue; and |
|
to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Coby Lee |
|
Roy Slaughter. |
