R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A group of students from The University of Texas at |
|
El Paso distinguished themselves by winning first place in the |
|
CubeCorps competition sponsored by the United Launch Alliance; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established to encourage hands-on science, |
|
technology, engineering, and math experiences, the CubeCorps |
|
program provides an opportunity for university students to design a |
|
miniature satellite, known as a CubeSat, and compete for a chance to |
|
have their project launched into space; and |
|
WHEREAS, A skilled team from the UTEP MIRO Center for Space |
|
Exploration and Technology Research developed the winning CubeSat |
|
model, Orbital Factory II, which will demonstrate on-orbit repair |
|
of solar cells using 3-D printing technology; it is scheduled to |
|
travel aboard an Atlas V rocket and be placed into an elliptical |
|
orbit approximately 26,000 miles above Earth's center in 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through their ingenuity, insight, and dedication to |
|
excellence, these exemplary students have earned distinction for |
|
their school and the Lone Star State, and they may indeed take |
|
justifiable pride in their notable achievement; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the student team from The |
|
University of Texas at El Paso for its first-place finish in the |
|
United Launch Alliance CubeCorps competition and extend to all |
|
those involved with the winning project best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for The University of Texas at El Paso as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
