R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues in the Texas |
|
legislative community will forever treasure their memories of Betty |
|
Wilhelm Horton, who passed away on November 29, 2015, at the age of |
|
64; and |
|
WHEREAS, The former Betty Wilhelm was born on July 21, 1951, |
|
in Dallas to Johnnie Lee and Nila Ruth Wilhelm; she graduated from |
|
South Garland High School in 1969, and that same year, she had the |
|
honor of being named the Teenaged Republican Woman of the Year in |
|
Dallas County; she subsequently earned her bachelor's degree and |
|
her master's degree in public administration from Texas State |
|
University, and after college, she took a job with KLBJ Radio in |
|
Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime legislative staffer, Ms. Horton served |
|
in 19 legislative sessions from 1975 until her retirement in 2013; |
|
she was employed with several members of the Texas House of |
|
Representatives, some of whom she spent more than a decade working |
|
for, and she took pride in the role she played in countless pieces |
|
of legislation that continue to impact the lives of Texans; along |
|
the way, she became a caring mentor and friend to generations of |
|
fellow staff members at the State Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was joined in matrimony to her high school |
|
sweetheart, Maxwell Davis Horton, in 1972, and the couple raised |
|
two daughters, Kelly and Shana; she cherished her role as a mother, |
|
and she also delighted in doting on her precious granddaughter, |
|
Georgia; for 35 years, Ms. Horton resided in the West Lake Hills |
|
area, where she belonged to Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church; in |
|
her retirement, she seized the opportunity to travel the world with |
|
her husband, venturing on trips to England, Scotland, France, |
|
Italy, and Costa Rica, as well as to Alaska, Hawaii, and other |
|
destinations across the United States; and |
|
WHEREAS, Known for her passion for life, her kindness and |
|
sincerity, and her spirit of adventure, Betty Horton was beloved by |
|
all those who had the pleasure of knowing her, and she will forever |
|
hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Wilhelm Horton |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn her passing; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Betty |
|
Wilhelm Horton. |
