R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Northland Christian |
|
School in Houston enjoyed an outstanding 2016-2017 season, |
|
advancing all the way to the Texas Association of Private and |
|
Parochial Schools 4A state championship game on February 24, 2017; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, After compiling an impressive regular-season record |
|
of 16 wins and 8 losses, the Cougars ended a 12-year drought in |
|
postseason victories by dispatching opponents from Geneva School of |
|
Boerne, St. Thomas' Episcopal School of Houston, and The Woodlands |
|
Christian Academy; with this triumphant run, the team punched its |
|
ticket to the finals for the first time in more than three decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In the title contest, Northland squared off against |
|
the top-seeded Trinity Christian School of Lubbock; though they |
|
turned in a valiant effort, the Cougars ultimately fell short by a |
|
final score of 91-47, but three of the Northland players still |
|
earned All-Tournament honors; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Cougars excelled with a true team effort |
|
throughout the season, receiving valuable contributions from each |
|
member of the roster; they also benefited from the able guidance of |
|
head coach James Van Hook; and |
|
WHEREAS, With their exceptional skill and unwavering |
|
commitment to excellence, the Northland Cougars earned a place |
|
among the top teams in Texas, and these dedicated competitors are a |
|
source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many |
|
supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Northland Christian School |
|
boys' basketball team on its memorable 2016-2017 season and extend |
|
to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the squad as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
