R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Northland Christian
  School in Houston enjoyed an outstanding 2016-2017 season,
  advancing all the way to the Texas Association of Private and
  Parochial Schools 4A state championship game on February 24, 2017;
  and
         WHEREAS, After compiling an impressive regular-season record
  of 16 wins and 8 losses, the Cougars ended a 12-year drought in
  postseason victories by dispatching opponents from Geneva School of
  Boerne, St. Thomas' Episcopal School of Houston, and The Woodlands
  Christian Academy; with this triumphant run, the team punched its
  ticket to the finals for the first time in more than three decades;
  and
         WHEREAS, In the title contest, Northland squared off against
  the top-seeded Trinity Christian School of Lubbock; though they
  turned in a valiant effort, the Cougars ultimately fell short by a
  final score of 91-47, but three of the Northland players still
  earned All-Tournament honors; and
         WHEREAS, The Cougars excelled with a true team effort
  throughout the season, receiving valuable contributions from each
  member of the roster; they also benefited from the able guidance of
  head coach James Van Hook; and
         WHEREAS, With their exceptional skill and unwavering
  commitment to excellence, the Northland Cougars earned a place
  among the top teams in Texas, and these dedicated competitors are a
  source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many
  supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Northland Christian School
  boys' basketball team on its memorable 2016-2017 season and extend
  to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the squad as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
