R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, Samuel Brehm, a student at Richard King High School |
|
|
in Corpus Christi, joined with a group of his classmates to win the |
|
|
high school category at the regional Science Bowl competition held |
|
|
at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on February 4, 2017; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of |
|
|
Science, the Science Bowl brings together middle and high school |
|
|
students to participate in a fast-paced academic contest that |
|
|
touches on disciplines ranging from biology and chemistry to |
|
|
physics and math; at the regional level, competitors from King High |
|
|
School bested 19 other teams from South Texas to earn an |
|
|
all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they will take |
|
|
part in the national competition being held from April 27 to May 1, |
|
|
2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Samuel Brehm is a senior at Richard King High |
|
|
School, where he has distinguished himself by playing with the |
|
|
Mighty Mustang band and competing in UIL academic events, in Quiz |
|
|
Bowl, and on the KEDT-TV program Challenge!; 1 of only 18 students |
|
|
in the world to have recorded a perfect score on the 2016 Advanced |
|
|
Placement Calculus AB test, he is also an Eagle Scout and a soloist |
|
|
for the Corpus Christi Ballet Company; he plans to attend Rice |
|
|
University in the fall of 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With their fine showing in the regional Science Bowl |
|
|
competition, the members of the King High School team have brought |
|
|
credit to their school and their community, and Samuel Brehm may |
|
|
take justifiable pride in his contributions to the team's winning |
|
|
performance; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Samuel Brehm on being part of the |
|
|
2017 regional Science Bowl high school championship team from |
|
|
Richard King High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Brehm as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
