R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Evelyn Davies was recognized with the Mary Nell
  Strong Community Service Award by the YWCA of Lubbock at its annual
  Women of Excellence Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence Awards
  honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and
  volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic
  and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to her community, Evelyn
  Davies has generously donated her time and resources to address
  charitable needs in Lubbock; since moving to the city with her
  husband, William Davies, in 1992, she has given hundreds of
  thousands of dollars to the Lubbock Area Foundation, through which
  grants have been made to a host of nonprofit organizations
  benefiting children and youth; she has also supported Texas Tech
  University, endowing a professorship and a memorial scholarship for
  the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery and donating art
  collections that are now on display at the Museum of Texas Tech
  University and the National Ranching Heritage Center; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of prominent rancher, civic leader, and
  philanthropist C. T. McLaughlin, Ms. Davies studied at Texas Tech
  University before earning her bachelor's degree in English from
  Chatham College in 1944 and her master's degree from the University
  of Houston in 1978; she is the former owner of her family's Diamond
  M Ranch in Snyder and the current director of the Diamond M
  Foundation, established by her parents in 1949; and
         WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence Award,
  Evelyn Davies joins an elite group of women who have been honored by
  the YWCA of Lubbock, and she is indeed a worthy role model for this
  and future generations; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Davies on receiving the 2017
  Mary Nell Strong Community Service Award from the YWCA of Lubbock
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Davies as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
