R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Evelyn Davies was recognized with the Mary Nell |
|
|
Strong Community Service Award by the YWCA of Lubbock at its annual |
|
|
Women of Excellence Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence Awards |
|
|
honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and |
|
|
volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic |
|
|
and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to her community, Evelyn |
|
|
Davies has generously donated her time and resources to address |
|
|
charitable needs in Lubbock; since moving to the city with her |
|
|
husband, William Davies, in 1992, she has given hundreds of |
|
|
thousands of dollars to the Lubbock Area Foundation, through which |
|
|
grants have been made to a host of nonprofit organizations |
|
|
benefiting children and youth; she has also supported Texas Tech |
|
|
University, endowing a professorship and a memorial scholarship for |
|
|
the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery and donating art |
|
|
collections that are now on display at the Museum of Texas Tech |
|
|
University and the National Ranching Heritage Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of prominent rancher, civic leader, and |
|
|
philanthropist C. T. McLaughlin, Ms. Davies studied at Texas Tech |
|
|
University before earning her bachelor's degree in English from |
|
|
Chatham College in 1944 and her master's degree from the University |
|
|
of Houston in 1978; she is the former owner of her family's Diamond |
|
|
M Ranch in Snyder and the current director of the Diamond M |
|
|
Foundation, established by her parents in 1949; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence Award, |
|
|
Evelyn Davies joins an elite group of women who have been honored by |
|
|
the YWCA of Lubbock, and she is indeed a worthy role model for this |
|
|
and future generations; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Davies on receiving the 2017 |
|
|
Mary Nell Strong Community Service Award from the YWCA of Lubbock |
|
|
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and |
|
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Davies as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
