R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the men and women |
|
|
of the law enforcement profession, for by their selfless devotion |
|
|
to the public welfare, they enable us to enjoy the benefits of a |
|
|
peaceful and orderly society; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Too seldom recognized, and sometimes taken for |
|
|
granted by the public they so faithfully serve, these gallant |
|
|
individuals daily risk their lives in order to ensure domestic |
|
|
tranquility and to protect the lives and property of others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Corrections Officer Mari A. Johnson of the Texas |
|
|
Department of Criminal Justice exemplified in her personal and |
|
|
professional conduct the singular virtues of courage, integrity, |
|
|
and steadfast resolve, and throughout her seven years on the force, |
|
|
her meritorious service embodied the highest ideals of her |
|
|
vocation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Killed in the line of duty on July 16, 2016, Officer |
|
|
Johnson will long be missed by her family, her fellow peace |
|
|
officers, and the entire community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Though her life ended far too soon, Officer Johnson |
|
|
left behind a record of public service that is deserving of her |
|
|
fellow citizens' lasting respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corrections Officer |
|
|
Mari A. Johnson and extend deepest sympathy to her relatives, |
|
|
friends, and fellow officers; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|
|
Corrections Officer Mari A. Johnson. |
