R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the men and women
  of the law enforcement profession, for by their selfless devotion
  to the public welfare, they enable us to enjoy the benefits of a
  peaceful and orderly society; and
         WHEREAS, Too seldom recognized, and sometimes taken for
  granted by the public they so faithfully serve, these gallant
  individuals daily risk their lives in order to ensure domestic
  tranquility and to protect the lives and property of others; and
         WHEREAS, Corrections Officer Mari A. Johnson of the Texas
  Department of Criminal Justice exemplified in her personal and
  professional conduct the singular virtues of courage, integrity,
  and steadfast resolve, and throughout her seven years on the force,
  her meritorious service embodied the highest ideals of her
  vocation; and
         WHEREAS, Killed in the line of duty on July 16, 2016, Officer
  Johnson will long be missed by her family, her fellow peace
  officers, and the entire community; and
         WHEREAS, Though her life ended far too soon, Officer Johnson
  left behind a record of public service that is deserving of her
  fellow citizens' lasting respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corrections Officer
  Mari A. Johnson and extend deepest sympathy to her relatives,
  friends, and fellow officers; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Corrections Officer Mari A. Johnson.
