R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 2012, the Texas chapter of IGNITE has worked |
|
to empower young women to become the next generation of civic and |
|
political leaders; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded by Dr. Anne Moses with the mission of |
|
achieving gender parity in politics, IGNITE is dedicated to |
|
providing training that helps women across the country understand |
|
the important role of political leadership in effecting change, |
|
think critically about policy, and acquire skills relevant to |
|
positions in public service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in Texas through a grant from the Boone |
|
Family Foundation, IGNITE has trained more than 3,000 young women |
|
at nearly 40 high schools, colleges, and universities in the State |
|
of Texas, and it has also registered more than 2,000 voters in the |
|
past five years; and |
|
WHEREAS, IGNITE's continuing efforts to promote positive |
|
civic and political engagement are supported by more than $1.5 |
|
million in funding it has received from a host of caring donors, |
|
which in addition to the Boone Family Foundation include the Harold |
|
Simmons Foundation, the Joan Hohlt and Roger Wich Foundation, the |
|
Embrey Family Foundation, the Simmons Foundation, AT&T, the |
|
Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Association of |
|
Business, KIPP, Uplift, and several school districts in the Dallas, |
|
Fort Worth, and Houston areas; and |
|
WHEREAS, By fostering in its participants the confidence and |
|
skills to pursue careers in public service, IGNITE is furthering |
|
the advancement of Texas women in civic and political life, and in |
|
so doing, it is investing in the future of our communities, our |
|
state, and our nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor IGNITE for encouraging young women to |
|
aspire to positions of political leadership and extend to the group |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success in its important work; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
