R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Los Fresnos High School girls' powerlifting team
  claimed their third straight Texas High School Women's Powerlifting
  Association championship on March 18, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Facing off against the best Class 6A teams in the
  state at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, the Lady Falcons hoisted
  their way to 37 team points, besting runner-up Weslaco High School
  by 10 points to secure the state title; and
         WHEREAS, Pacing the team at the state meet were Ally Highful
  in the 97-pound weight class and Mandy Sanchez in the 114-pound
  class, each of whom clinched her second straight individual state
  title, as well as Jesed Castro, who won the 181-pound division;
  moreover, Lorena Martinez and Aliana Richardson each earned second
  place in their respective weight divisions, and Bella Vargas took
  third and Brianna Ruiz fourth in theirs; Cassandra Puente and
  Jackie Martinez finished fifth, Daniela Perez and Ianellie Aguilar
  came in sixth, and Summer Sosa earned seventh in their divisions,
  while Sophia Torres finished 13th in hers; also representing Los
  Fresnos at the state meet were Julie Escobar and Mary Jane
  Maldonado; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head coach Jaime Vela and
  assistant coach Johnny Highful, Los Fresnos benefited throughout
  the year from the vital contributions of all the members of the
  team's roster; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the goal of every
  high school athlete; the hard work and skill demonstrated by the
  Lady Falcons have enabled them to realize that dream, and they will
  treasure the memory of this outstanding accomplishment for many
  years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Los Fresnos High School girls'
  powerlifting team on winning the 2017 Texas High School Women's
  Powerlifting Association Class 6A championship and extend to all
  those associated with the team sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
