R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Residents of Raymondville are mourning the loss of
  admired civic leader Gilbert Lozano, who passed away on February
  22, 2017, at the age of 72; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Pablo Lozano Sr. and Maria de Jesus Sierra
  de la Fuente, Gilbert Lozano was born in Brownsville on July 13,
  1944; he worked in a grocery store and at a hotel restaurant while
  attending Edinburg High School; coming of age during the Vietnam
  War era, he served his country in the United States Army, and he was
  deployed to Panama during a crisis in the Canal Zone; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Lozano worked
  for General Motors in Michigan; he subsequently returned to the Rio
  Grande Valley, where he completed his education at Texas Southmost
  College and embarked on a career as a probation officer in Cameron
  County; he later transferred to the Willacy County Probation
  Department and settled in Raymondville; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano was employed in probation for 25 years
  before his retirement; still eager to serve, he became the county's
  district clerk in 2003; he was determined to end the financial
  burden caused by an inefficient system of rotating state district
  judges in the county, and with the help of his state senator, he
  succeeded in having jurisdiction consolidated under a single court;
  in addition, he benefited his fellow citizens as a member of the
  Lions Club, VFW Post No. 6719, and American Legion Post No. 390;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano and his first wife, Anna Lopez, were
  blessed with five children, David, Gilbert, Elizabeth, Cristine,
  and Justin; in 1984, he wed the former Viola Cavazos, and they
  shared a quarter century of marriage; he loved to visit his children
  in Michigan, and he was devoted to his 10 grandchildren, his 10
  step-grandchildren, and his great-grandchild; genial and
  good-hearted, he showed compassion through many kind acts, and he
  enjoyed taking friends, colleagues, and acquaintances out fishing
  on his boat; and
         WHEREAS, Gilbert Lozano made a meaningful difference in the
  lives of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his
  contributions will be fondly remembered for years to come; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gilbert Lozano and
  extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gilbert
  Lozano.
