R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Gerald Dale Gaus of Lewisville on
  February 27, 2017, at the age of 75; and
         WHEREAS, The adopted son of Alvin and Laura Gaus, Dale Gaus
  was born on January 14, 1942, and raised in Herscher, Illinois; he
  attended Concordia College and subsequently answered his nation's
  call to duty, joining the United States Air Force and serving with
  the Air Training Command during the Vietnam War; an electronics
  instructor in the radio radar field, he taught cryptography to
  members of all branches of the U.S. armed forces, and though he was
  primarily stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, he
  also spent time at Langley AFB in Virginia and aboard the naval
  nuclear submarine USS Triton; he attained the rank of sergeant
  prior to his discharge from the armed forces; and
         WHEREAS, After his return to civilian life, Mr. Gaus began
  teaching the collection and processing of seismographic data from
  the ocean floor to individuals involved in oil exploration, work
  that took him to locations across the globe; he later served as a
  fiber optics and satellite telecommunications instructor; and
         WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Gaus pursued his great
  passion for music; in addition to being a gifted pianist and
  organist, he was a member of the Dallas-based ensemble Vocal
  Majority for nearly four decades, during which time he won numerous
  gold medals at international singing competitions and performed
  with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and at the inauguration of
  President Ronald Reagan; he was also active in his community as a
  congregant of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Flower Mound, where
  he contributed his vocal talents to the What's the Message webcast,
  and as chaplain for American Legion Post No. 182 in Little Elm; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gaus treasured the moments he spent with his
  family above all else; he shared more than half a century of
  marriage with his wife, the former Beverly Bailey, and over the
  years, the couple were blessed with a fine family that included two
  children, Linda Asbell and Kevin Gaus, and three granddaughters,
  Summer, Zarred, and Molly; and
         WHEREAS, A man who never met a stranger, Dale Gaus brought joy
  to innumerable people through his positive attitude, generosity of
  spirit, and wonderful sense of humor; although he will be deeply
  missed, those who were privileged to know him will continue to find
  inspiration in their memories of his profound commitment to his
  family, his community, and his country; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gerald Dale Gaus and
  extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gerald Dale
  Gaus.
