R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Gunter High School football team reached the |
|
pinnacle of success by winning the University Interscholastic |
|
League 3A Division 2 state championship on December 15, 2016, at |
|
AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Gunter Tigers entered the playoffs undefeated |
|
through 10 regular season games, and they maintained their momentum |
|
with a streak of double-digit victories over Jacksboro, Hooks, |
|
Henrietta, Winona, and Canadian High Schools to earn their place in |
|
the title contest against Boling High; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dominating both sides of the ball, Gunter defeated |
|
Boling by a score of 43-7, the largest margin of victory ever |
|
recorded in a 3A Division 2 championship game, and these |
|
outstanding student athletes capped off a perfect 16-0 season with |
|
the first state crown in school history; and |
|
WHEREAS, Colson Stovall rushed for 180 yards and four |
|
touchdowns to claim Offensive Player of the Game honors, while |
|
Peyton Lowe's team-leading six and a half tackles earned him |
|
Defensive Player of the Game accolades; the Tigers also received |
|
valuable contributions from the other members of the roster |
|
throughout the year, and they greatly benefited from the able |
|
guidance of head coach Jake Fieszel, who earned his 100th career |
|
victory during the season; and |
|
WHEREAS, In capturing their school's first state |
|
championship, the members of the Gunter football squad demonstrated |
|
remarkable teamwork, skill, and commitment to excellence, and they |
|
are a source of tremendous pride to their many supporters; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Gunter High School football |
|
team on winning the 2016 UIL 3A Division 2 state championship and |
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
