R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Coppell Independent School District is making |
|
vital contributions to the strength and vitality of its community |
|
by providing area students with a solid educational foundation on |
|
which to build; and |
|
WHEREAS, Based in the city of Coppell, the district also |
|
serves families in Valley Ranch, Grapevine, North Irving, and |
|
Dallas; the dedicated faculty and staff teach nearly 12,400 |
|
students at the district's 16 schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of superintendent Dr. Mike |
|
Waldrip, the district seeks to foster an environment in which |
|
students excel in every aspect of their education; among its |
|
numerous successes, the district boasted a record 36 National Merit |
|
Scholar finalists in 2016 and has 29 semifinalists this year, while |
|
a number of district students are advancing to national competition |
|
in speech and debate after winning at state; the Coppell High School |
|
boys' soccer team took the 2016 UIL 6A state championship in 2016, |
|
securing a No. 1 ranking in several polls, and the school's girls' |
|
team is nationally ranked in 2017; moreover, several of its |
|
campuses have been named National Schools of Character, and Coppell |
|
ISD was one of only four districts in the nation to receive the |
|
title of National District of Character in 2016; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Coppell Independent School District is |
|
equipping area students with the knowledge and skills necessary to |
|
become productive and successful members of society, and it is |
|
indeed deserving of recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Coppell Independent School District |
|
for its service to the Dallas area and extend to all those |
|
associated with the district sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Coppell ISD as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
