R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas Challenge bicycle ride hosted by Project
  Hero and sponsored by UnitedHealthcare is taking place from April 2
  through April 8, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, This noncompetitive, therapeutic bike tour is
  designed for first responders and veterans who are recovering from
  post-traumatic stress disorders and traumatic brain injuries, with
  the participants riding together for 500 miles on traditional and
  specially adapted bikes; and
         WHEREAS, After gathering in San Antonio on Sunday, the 2017
  Texas Challenge riders depart on Monday for San Marcos; from there,
  the route takes them through Georgetown, Fort Hood, Waco, and
  College Station before finishing in Houston on April 8; along the
  way, the cyclists will pass through other communities and visit
  historic sites, civic centers, and local attractions, and members
  of the public will have the opportunity to show support for the
  riders; and
         WHEREAS, The physical and mental effort required of the men
  and women taking part in this event has proven to be of significant
  therapeutic value; participants set goals for themselves and work
  hard to attain them, while simultaneously motivating and
  encouraging their fellow riders to persevere in all aspects of
  their rehabilitation; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation owe a profound debt of
  gratitude to injured first responders and veterans, and the annual
  Texas Challenge ride plays a vital role in providing these brave and
  determined individuals with the support they so richly deserve;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2017 Project Hero and
  UnitedHealthcare Texas Challenge bicycle ride and extend to its
  participants sincere best wishes for seven days of camaraderie and
  good fellowship; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Project Hero as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
