R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Roy Maynard of the Tyler Morning Telegraph received |
|
the Class AAA first-place award for editorial writing at the annual |
|
Texas Associated Press Managing Editors Convention, held March |
|
24-26, 2017, in Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Maynard's outstanding 28-year career in |
|
journalism began in 1989, when he took a job covering city hall and |
|
politics for the Arlington Daily News; he later worked for the Fort |
|
Worth Star-Telegram and in Galveston before becoming a freelance |
|
writer for various publications, including the Houston Chronicle, |
|
the Orange County Register, and the Washington Post; between 1993 |
|
and 2001, he traveled around the globe to report on political, |
|
educational, and cultural topics for World magazine; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since joining the Tyler Morning Telegraph in 2003, |
|
Mr. Maynard has coordinated the paper's government team, served on |
|
its editorial board, and provided on-air political analysis for its |
|
television news partner, CBS affiliate KYTX-TV; in 2008, he was |
|
promoted to editorial page editor, and he has been directing the |
|
business section since 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Maynard has also been a teacher and debate coach |
|
at the Good Shepherd School for many years; in all his endeavors, he |
|
enjoys the support of a loving family that includes his wife, Sara, |
|
and their three children, Calvin, Laurel, and Blythe; and |
|
WHEREAS, A skilled and dedicated journalist, Roy Maynard has |
|
upheld the highest standards of his profession, and he is indeed |
|
deserving of this most recent honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Roy Maynard on winning the Class |
|
AAA first-place award for editorial writing at the 2017 Texas |
|
Associated Press Managing Editors Convention and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Maynard as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
