H.R. No. 1311

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The tragic shooting of 12 police officers in Dallas
on July 7, 2016, called forth a heroic response from numerous
individuals, and among those greatly deserving of recognition for
their actions are the emergency room personnel who attended to the
officers injured in the attack; and
WHEREAS, On that evening, law enforcement agencies were
providing security at a demonstration in downtown Dallas when a
lone gunman opened fire, killing four members of the Dallas Police
Department and one member of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police
and wounding an additional seven officers; and
WHEREAS, The wounded were transported to Baylor University
Medical Center and Parkland Hospital, where the unexpected influx
of critically injured patients placed a strain on the medical
professionals on duty that evening; hospital staff acted quickly to
mobilize additional medical teams, who worked together to
coordinate treatment for the officers; maintaining their composure
in spite of these hectic and highly stressful circumstances, the
doctors, nurses, and other staff members were able to ensure that
each patient received the care they needed, and their actions
helped save lives that might otherwise have been lost; and
WHEREAS, The swift, skillful efforts of the Baylor and
Parkland medical personnel were instrumental in preventing this
harrowing national tragedy from exacting an even greater toll, and
they truly merit the heartfelt praise of their fellow Texans for
their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to the highest
standards of emergency medical care; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the emergency room staff members of Baylor
University Medical Center and Parkland Hospital who treated the
police officers injured in the shooting in Dallas on July 7, 2016,
and extend to them sincere appreciation for the important services
that they provide to the community on a daily basis; and, be it
  further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Baylor University Medical Center and Parkland Hospital
as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
  Representatives.
