R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Juan M. Aguilar of the Fort Worth Police |
|
Department is serving as an inspiring role model for many young men |
|
in his community through his work with the Boys of Valor Club at |
|
Manuel Jara Elementary School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Boys of Valor stands for "Boys Who Value Academics, |
|
Leadership, Obedience, and Respect"; the club was founded by the |
|
school principal, Marta Plata, as a program for boys in the fifth |
|
grade with the goal of encouraging positive behaviors and reducing |
|
bullying, gang recruitment, and disrespect for teachers; and |
|
WHEREAS, In support of this worthwhile effort, Officer |
|
Aguilar and two of his fellow FWPD officers visit the school weekly |
|
to speak to the club's members about leadership and to engage |
|
participants in a game of football or basketball; the officers |
|
occasionally have lunch with the students as well, and they have |
|
also helped to deliver Christmas trees during the holiday season |
|
and participated in bicycle raffles; and |
|
WHEREAS, A resident of the same North Division that he |
|
serves, Officer Aguilar joined the FWPD in 2002 after fulfilling |
|
his lifelong dream of becoming a United States citizen; in his work |
|
as a neighborhood police officer, he enjoys acting as a liaison to |
|
the Spanish-speaking community, and he often takes part in local |
|
events, where he can assist in building the public's confidence in |
|
his department; and |
|
WHEREAS, By generously devoting his time and energy to this |
|
worthwhile effort, Officer Juan Aguilar is helping set club members |
|
on the path to becoming responsible and productive citizens and |
|
fostering a stronger relationship between the police and young men |
|
in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Officer Juan M. Aguilar of the Fort |
|
Worth Police Department for his contributions to the Boys of Valor |
|
Club and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in |
|
his important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Officer Aguilar as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
