R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sergeant Pablo Mendoza of the Fort Worth Police |
|
|
Department is serving as an inspiring role model for many young men |
|
|
in his community through his work with the Boys of Valor Club at |
|
|
Manuel Jara Elementary School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Boys of Valor stands for "Boys who Value Academics, |
|
|
Leadership, Obedience, and Respect"; the club was founded by the |
|
|
school principal, Marta Plata, as a program for boys in the fifth |
|
|
grade with the goal of encouraging positive behaviors and reducing |
|
|
bullying, gang recruitment, and disrespect for teachers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In support of this worthwhile effort, Sergeant |
|
|
Mendoza and two of his fellow FWPD officers visit the school weekly |
|
|
to speak to the club's members about leadership and to engage |
|
|
participants in a game of football or basketball; the officers |
|
|
occasionally have lunch with the students as well, and they have |
|
|
also helped to deliver Christmas trees during the holiday season |
|
|
and participated in bicycle raffles; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A Fort Worth native, Sergeant Mendoza graduated from |
|
|
the police academy in 1999; during his first eight years with the |
|
|
FWPD, he served in a number of different capacities, including as a |
|
|
patrol officer, a downtown bike patrol officer, and a member of the |
|
|
Gang Enforcement Unit; he went on to join the North Division |
|
|
Criminal Investigation Unit as a corporal and detective, and after |
|
|
three years, he was selected as a member of the Intelligence |
|
|
Section's criminal tracking unit; he earned promotion to the rank |
|
|
of sergeant in 2013, and he currently serves in the North Division; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By generously devoting his time and energy to this |
|
|
worthwhile effort, Sergeant Mendoza is helping set club members on |
|
|
the path to becoming responsible and productive citizens and |
|
|
fostering a stronger relationship between the police and young men |
|
|
in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Pablo Mendoza of the Fort Worth |
|
|
Police Department for his contributions to the Boys of Valor Club |
|
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Sergeant Mendoza as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
