R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Pablo Mendoza of the Fort Worth Police
  Department is serving as an inspiring role model for many young men
  in his community through his work with the Boys of Valor Club at
  Manuel Jara Elementary School; and
         WHEREAS, Boys of Valor stands for "Boys who Value Academics,
  Leadership, Obedience, and Respect"; the club was founded by the
  school principal, Marta Plata, as a program for boys in the fifth
  grade with the goal of encouraging positive behaviors and reducing
  bullying, gang recruitment, and disrespect for teachers; and
         WHEREAS, In support of this worthwhile effort, Sergeant
  Mendoza and two of his fellow FWPD officers visit the school weekly
  to speak to the club's members about leadership and to engage
  participants in a game of football or basketball; the officers
  occasionally have lunch with the students as well, and they have
  also helped to deliver Christmas trees during the holiday season
  and participated in bicycle raffles; and
         WHEREAS, A Fort Worth native, Sergeant Mendoza graduated from
  the police academy in 1999; during his first eight years with the
  FWPD, he served in a number of different capacities, including as a
  patrol officer, a downtown bike patrol officer, and a member of the
  Gang Enforcement Unit; he went on to join the North Division
  Criminal Investigation Unit as a corporal and detective, and after
  three years, he was selected as a member of the Intelligence
  Section's criminal tracking unit; he earned promotion to the rank
  of sergeant in 2013, and he currently serves in the North Division;
  and
         WHEREAS, By generously devoting his time and energy to this
  worthwhile effort, Sergeant Mendoza is helping set club members on
  the path to becoming responsible and productive citizens and
  fostering a stronger relationship between the police and young men
  in the community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Pablo Mendoza of the Fort Worth
  Police Department for his contributions to the Boys of Valor Club
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sergeant Mendoza as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
