R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A loving family and a host of dear friends will |
|
forever treasure the memory of Haruka Weiser of Portland, Oregon, |
|
whose tragic death on April 5, 2016, at the age of 18, united |
|
countless people in mourning throughout Texas and her home state; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Haruka Juliana Tsunemine Weiser was born on June 20, |
|
1997, to Thomas Weiser and Yasuyo Tsunemine and grew up with the |
|
companionship of her younger brother, Noboru, and sister, Naomi; |
|
she graduated in 2015 from the Arts & Communication Magnet Academy |
|
in Beaverton, Oregon, where she formed many lasting friendships; |
|
while there, she demonstrated a unique gift for dance and pursued |
|
her passion as a performer with the Portland Ballet and the |
|
Beaverton Dance West Troupe; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Weiser's showing at the National High School |
|
Dance Festival caught the eye of faculty from The University of |
|
Texas at Austin, and she went on to enroll at UT on a full |
|
scholarship; she endeared herself to the university's arts and |
|
dance community, and although her talent as a dancer was apparent to |
|
all who knew her, she always remained humble and down to earth; in |
|
addition to dance, she dedicated herself diligently to her other |
|
classes and excelled in math and science, and she had plans to |
|
declare a second major in premedical studies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Haruka Weiser possessed a genuine enthusiasm for |
|
life that inspired everyone around her and took special joy in such |
|
simple acts as watching the sun rise and going on impromptu picnics; |
|
adventurous and spirited, she found additional outlets for her |
|
energy in sculpture and cooking, and she was known to treat even the |
|
smallest moments of happiness as opportunities to dance; and |
|
WHEREAS, While the death of Haruka Weiser is an incalculable |
|
loss to the many people who cherished her, the passage of time will |
|
never dim their memories of the love that she shared with them and |
|
the joy and purpose with which she followed her dreams; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Haruka Juliana |
|
Tsunemine Weiser and extend heartfelt condolences to her family, |
|
her friends, and all those who join them in celebrating the life of |
|
this remarkable young woman; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Haruka |
|
Weiser. |
