R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, James Douglas Richey Jr. of Tyler Junior College
  received the 2016 Mattie Alice Scroggin Baker Excellence in
  Teaching Award; and
         WHEREAS, Since 2013, Jim Richey has served as chair of the
  college's English department; he first joined the faculty in 2004,
  and over the years, he has received many accolades, including four
  TRiO Teacher Awards from TJC, the Thomas H. Shelby Jr. Endowed Chair
  for Teaching Excellence Award, and the National Institute for Staff
  and Organizational Development Excellence Award; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Richey previously taught at Amberton
  University, Texas A&M University--Commerce, The University of
  Texas at Tyler, Panola College, and Northeast Texas Community
  College; he began his career as a high school teacher, and during
  six years with the Chapel Hill Independent School District, he
  served as chair of the English department and as an athletics coach
  as well; a graduate of TAMU--Commerce, he holds a bachelor's degree
  in English and secondary education, a master's degree in English,
  and a doctoral degree in education with a focus on supervision,
  curriculum, and instruction; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Douglas and Kathy Richey, Jim Richey was
  born in Greenville in 1970; he attended Mount Pleasant High School
  and worked for a time as a professional musician, and he continues
  to teach private music students; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the
  love and support of his wife, Toni Ward Richey, and he is the proud
  father of two children, Elizabeth and Jamey; and
         WHEREAS, Through his exceptional commitment to higher
  education, Jim Richey has made a positive difference in the lives of
  many young Texans, and his contributions have earned the lasting
  respect and admiration of his students and colleagues alike; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate James Douglas Richey Jr. on his
  receipt of the 2016 Mattie Alice Scroggin Baker Excellence in
  Teaching Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Richey as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
