R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud members of the Texas State Federation of
  Garden Clubs are gathering for their 60th annual state convention
  on April 21, 2017, in Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, The organization's roots can be traced back to
  October 1957, when representatives from garden clubs throughout the
  state met to establish the State Federation of Garden Clubs,
  Incorporated; the following year, the first regular meeting
  convened at St. John Baptist Church in Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, With a mission to encourage civic beautification by
  fostering a love of flowers and plants, the federation seeks to
  provide education about the art and science of cultivating plants
  and to aid in the protection and conservation of natural resources;
  members of the group's local clubs in Dallas, Houston, Denton,
  Tyler, and Bryan accomplish these goals by facilitating hands-on
  learning experiences and by training youth garden clubs;
  furthermore, in 2002, the organization established the Frankie
  Huckaby Scholarship to promote studies in horticulture,
  floriculture, landscape architecture, and other related fields;
  and
         WHEREAS, For six decades, the Texas State Federation of
  Garden Clubs has promoted a love of gardening across the Lone Star
  State, and its members are indeed worthy of recognition for their
  contributions to preserving and enhancing the beauty of our
  landscapes; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th annual state convention of
  the Texas State Federation of Garden Clubs and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for a
  successful and memorable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the federation as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
