R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Amanda Salinas has been named the 2016-2017 Teacher
  of the Year at West Oso High School in Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, A solid education is vital for young people to
  become successful and productive adults, and those men and women
  who dedicate their careers to teaching make a positive difference
  in the lives of their students and in the greater community; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi
  with a degree in biology, Mrs. Salinas has worked at West Oso High
  for the past four years, teaching courses in engineering,
  chemistry, and anatomy and physiology; in addition to chairing the
  science department, she coaches the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics
  team and serves as a yearbook sponsor; and
         WHEREAS, Amanda Salinas exemplifies the passion,
  determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
  best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all
  in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Amanda Salinas on her selection as
  the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year at West Oso High School and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
