R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Grant Gunnell, a sophomore at St. Pius X High School
  in Houston, has compiled an impressive list of athletic
  accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, A two-year letterman who plays quarterback on the
  St. Pius football team, Mr. Gunnell had a juggernaut freshman
  season, and he continued to burnish his illustrious reputation
  throughout the 2016-2017 campaign, throwing for 4,973 yards and 65
  touchdowns and rushing for 387 yards and 5 touchdowns; he has been
  ranked the number one high school quarterback in the nation by
  Scout.com and second by both 247Sports and Rivals.com; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gunnell has earned placement on the Texas
  Association of Private and Parochial Schools All-State and
  All-District First Teams, and he was chosen as the most valuable
  player at the district level; moreover, he has garnered
  All-American honors from MaxPreps, Scout.com, and CBS Sports, and
  he was named both Sophomore of the Year and Private School Player of
  the Year by Scout.com and designated a Top Underclassman at The
  Opening Regionals camp in New Orleans; he has also secured a spot on
  next year's Under Armour Future 50 team and received Player of the
  Week honors from numerous organizations; and
         WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Gunnell has drawn great strength
  and motivation from his faith, and he has served as an inspiring
  role model through his work with the special needs ministry at The
  Woodlands United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Grant Gunnell has established himself as one of the
  most promising high school football players not only in the Lone
  Star State but also across the nation, and he is a source of
  tremendous pride to his family, his school, and his community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Grant Gunnell on his many athletic
  achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gunnell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
