R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The soccer team from Central Catholic High School in
  San Antonio once again reached the pinnacle of success by winning
  the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools boys'
  Division I state championship with a victory in the title game on
  March 8, 2017, in Waco; and
         WHEREAS, During their thrilling postseason run, the Buttons
  dispatched formidable teams from Dallas Parish Episcopal School,
  Plano John Paul II High School, and Plano Prestonwood Christian
  Academy to advance to the finals against St. Pius X High School of
  Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Taking the field with the state title on the line,
  the Buttons set the tone early, as Frankie Armijo, Diego Gonzalez,
  Kyle Murray, Franco Querido, and Greg Petri each scored goals to
  give the team a 5-0 advantage at the intermission; Rob Smith punched
  in another goal in the second half to extend the lead, and the team
  clinched the trophy by a final score of 6-1; the victory marked
  Central Catholic's fifth state crown in the past 11 years and capped
  a season in which the squad compiled an impressive overall record of
  16 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie; moreover, Mr. Murray, Mr. Smith, Jose
  Gallegos, and Nicolas Legarreta were named to the TAPPS All-State
  First Team, while Mr. Armijo and Drew Henry made Second Team and
  Mr. Gonzalez received an honorable mention; and
         WHEREAS, The Buttons also received valuable contributions
  throughout the season from the other members of the roster:
  Alejandro Chavarría, Chris Rios, Sean McLoughlin, Jacob Bañuelos,
  Zach Rodriguez, Angel Bacho, Rob Anderson, Juan Jaén, Elijah
  Hernandez, John Garcia, Josh Castro, Efrain Leuck, and Luis Jaén;
  these determined athletes benefited from the skilled guidance of
  head coach Edward Cartee and his staff; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and the members of the Central Catholic
  High School soccer team will treasure the memory of this
  accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Central Catholic High School
  soccer team on winning the 2016-2017 TAPPS Division I state
  championship and extend to everyone associated with the team
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Buttons as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
