R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud members of the Rotary Club of Humble are
  celebrating the club's 50th anniversary on May 3, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, A group of 22 individuals joined together on May 4,
  1967, to found the group, which was originally known as the Rotary
  Club of Humble Intercontinental; today, this fellowship of business
  and community leaders is made up of 80 members who continue the
  Rotary mission of providing humanitarian service, encouraging high
  ethical standards, and promoting goodwill and peace at the global
  and local level; and
         WHEREAS, Early in its existence, the club initiated a
  pioneering project to assist destitute children in foreign
  countries, and the program was used as a template for antipoverty
  initiatives carried out by other Rotary Clubs; moreover, the Humble
  Rotarians have contributed to the global polio eradication efforts
  of Rotary International; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of its history, the Rotary Club of
  Humble has staged annual fund-raising events, including spaghetti
  suppers, fish fries, and crawfish festivals; in the early years,
  proceeds were donated to such recipients as the Boy Scouts, the
  Octavia Fields Branch Library, local schools, and area Little
  Leagues; in the past 18 years alone, the group has provided a total
  of $1.8 million to philanthropic causes, and among the
  organizations that have benefited from its support are the Humble
  Area Assistance Ministries, Village Learning Center, Mission
  Northeast, the YMCA, the FFA, and the Society of St. Stephen; and
         WHEREAS, Humble Rotary Club members assist students in
  furthering their educations by awarding more than $17,000 in
  scholarships each year, and the club also participates in the
  Rotary Youth Exchange Program to promote understanding between
  cultures; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by the motto "We will change lives by
  providing opportunities," the Rotary Club of Humble has made a
  lasting, positive difference through the committed work of its
  members, past and present, and this noteworthy organization is
  indeed deserving of recognition as it marks this special milestone
  in its history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rotary
  Club of Humble and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
