R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of
  Dr. Valerie Kim Wright of Waco, who passed away on April 7, 2017, at
  the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Grant and Venita Brown, the former
  Valerie Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 10,
  1943; she completed her bachelor's degree and her master's degree in
  anatomy at the University of Utah, and after graduating from
  Women's College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she
  became the first female resident in plastic surgery at Baylor
  College of Medicine; and
         WHEREAS, She married a fellow surgeon, Dr. Robert M. Wright
  Jr., on May 7, 1977, and during the final year of her general
  residency, she gave birth to their daughter, A. J.; she and her
  husband established a plastic and reconstructive surgery practice
  together in 1984, and the following year, they performed one of the
  first hand replantations in Central Texas; the couple also became
  the parents of a second child, Randy; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of 34 years in medicine, Dr. Wright
  established a reputation as a leader in her field and touched the
  lives of countless people; in her free time, she pursued a wide
  variety of interests, among them reading, bead making, knitting,
  and playing guitar and piano, and she was a true animal lover; and
         WHEREAS, Valerie Wright lived a rich and purposeful life
  centered around her work and her family, and she will long be
  remembered with deep admiration and affection by all who knew her;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Valerie Kim
  Wright and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Dr. Valerie Wright.
