R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of |
|
|
Dr. Valerie Kim Wright of Waco, who passed away on April 7, 2017, at |
|
|
the age of 73; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Grant and Venita Brown, the former |
|
|
Valerie Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 10, |
|
|
1943; she completed her bachelor's degree and her master's degree in |
|
|
anatomy at the University of Utah, and after graduating from |
|
|
Women's College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she |
|
|
became the first female resident in plastic surgery at Baylor |
|
|
College of Medicine; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She married a fellow surgeon, Dr. Robert M. Wright |
|
|
Jr., on May 7, 1977, and during the final year of her general |
|
|
residency, she gave birth to their daughter, A. J.; she and her |
|
|
husband established a plastic and reconstructive surgery practice |
|
|
together in 1984, and the following year, they performed one of the |
|
|
first hand replantations in Central Texas; the couple also became |
|
|
the parents of a second child, Randy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of 34 years in medicine, Dr. Wright |
|
|
established a reputation as a leader in her field and touched the |
|
|
lives of countless people; in her free time, she pursued a wide |
|
|
variety of interests, among them reading, bead making, knitting, |
|
|
and playing guitar and piano, and she was a true animal lover; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Valerie Wright lived a rich and purposeful life |
|
|
centered around her work and her family, and she will long be |
|
|
remembered with deep admiration and affection by all who knew her; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Valerie Kim |
|
|
Wright and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|
|
Dr. Valerie Wright. |
